New Publication: Special Issue on Indigenous Speculative Fiction
Posted by Sascha Pöhlmann on 2025-06-02

Orbit is proud to announce the publication of a special issue devoted to Indigenous speculative fiction, edited by James Donahue. The critical introduction attempts a quick history by means of a thought experiment, highlighting the social and political work engaged by Indigenous speculative fiction. Focusing on works produced by Canadian and US Indigenous authors who have worked in horror, science fiction, fantasy and other speculative genres, the essays that follow investigate the work of canonical writers such as Louis Erdrich, Steven Graham Jones, and Gerald Vizenor alongside emerging authors such as Celu Amberstone, Angeline Boulley, Cherie Dimaline, Adam Garnet Jones, Darcie Little Badger, Kai Minosh Pyle, Waubgeshig Rice, Eden Robinson, and jaye simpson. Orbit welcomes future submissions on Indigenous writers.
